A Fresh Anointing for a Fresh Perspective
Last week, I hit a wall.
Not the kind of wall that a quick nap can fix, but the kind that makes you stop in your tracks and question everything. I was physically tired, mentally drained, and spiritually depleted. I was carrying responsibilities that felt heavier than usual and showing up for others while silently running on empty. I realized I couldn’t push through this one. I needed to pause.
So I did.
I stepped away from the noise, the demands, and the constant pace. I took time to clear my head and my home. I created space for God to breathe on me again. What I expected to be a brief rest became something sacred. I found myself in the middle of a divine reset.
As I sat in that stillness, I reflected on who I was becoming. I thought about how so many of us Black women are expected to carry so much. We are the backbone of our families, the heartbeat of our communities, and often the glue holding our workplaces together. We show up strong, even when we feel stretched thin. We pour out, even when our own cups feel empty.
In that stillness, I remembered something I just read a few days ago in John Maxwell's "The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth." The Law of Reflection reminds us that growth requires intentional pauses. If we are always moving and never pausing, we miss the insight that helps us grow. This truth came alive for me. I didn’t just need rest. I needed reflection.
Even Jesus paused.
Throughout His ministry, Jesus often withdrew from the crowds to rest and pray. He stepped away to reconnect with God and refill His spirit. He knew that power and clarity come from the quiet place (Luke 5:16; Mark 6:30-32; Luke 6:12-13). If Jesus needed rest and renewal, surely we do, too.
Just this morning, God confirmed everything through the sermon on renewal (Isaiah 40:29-31). It reminded me that what I had been walking through wasn’t just fatigue. It was restoration and realignment. It was God doing something deeper within me.
In that pause I didn’t find all the answers, but I found fresh oil. I found a new anointing to see differently, move intentionally, and lead with clarity. I was reminded that I do not have to carry what God never asked me to hold. I realized that He will refill what life has emptied. Sometimes the breakthrough begins when we stop forcing and start listening.
Now I move forward with peace instead of pressure. I feel more aligned, not because life got easier, but because I allowed God to shift something in me.
If you are tired, overwhelmed, or stretched thin, I want to encourage you to follow the example of Jesus. Step away for a moment. Make space to rest and reflect. Let God meet you there. Let Him refill, renew, and refocus you.
There is power in pause and clarity in reflection.
And there is a fresh anointing for a fresh perspective waiting just for you.
